“Onions that are worth the wait”
Growing
In total we produce 9000t of set onions that have been grown from seed supplied by the Allium and Brassica Centre and The English Set Company. Set onions are harvested between July and August, one of the earliest productions in the uk. by pushing back the traditional time for the onion harvest, it once again eradicated the need for costly imported crops. our seed onion crop (or drilled crop) harvest begins right at the end of August and continues throughout September. we are one of the largest producers in the country and harvest 20,000t in a season. Our specialism is growing Supermarket specification onions for Stourgarden, Moulton Bulb Company and Produce World Rustler.
Storing
Our Onions are stored in bulk stores utilising Tolsma technology, a pioneering and intelligent Dutch method of storage that we run using electricity produced by our maize fed anaerobic digester. This sustainable energy both reduces our carbon footprint and keeps costs down. Onions are stored by us from October to February, for sales in March-June. WE have 9000t of 1 ton box stores which help to prevent compression damage and ensure the onion stores for a long period of time. Importantly, this once again narrows the increasingly short window in which imported crops are required.
Grading
Our grading facility allows for us to grade onions to our customer's exacting size specifications. Recent producer Organisation grant funding has allowed for us to increase our quality focus by installing picking points post sizing.
Our Produce
White Onion
Our White Onions are our pride and joy! We have won the EU Onion of the year award in 2008, 2010, 2011 and each year after 2014 for our white onion. Hints of vanilla and burnt sage. You need to experience it for yourself!
Red Onion
We have recently ventured into the red onion market as much as the British climate allows. The onions we produce are bulbous, sweet and tasty with bold plum aroma and long aftertaste.
Other?
We also produce spring onions, scallions and chives.
We pickle our onions and the jars make lovely and thoughtful present.

Our Story
Ray Waite’s Onion Farm goes back to the late 19th century (then it was known as Bluebell farm) when are onions were already well known in the local area. Since the early 90s we have been supplying onions to most major retailers.
In the early 2000s we have signed an exclusive deal with many restaurants and restaurant chains. If you’ve been eating onions, you most certainly have had our Onions!
Due to the difficult year we had with Covid-19 we had to raise funding and thanks to the generous investments we now have an online presence! We have renamed ourselves Ray Waite’s Onion Farm in honour of our main investor.
